Blue Forest Trip

There is an ancient forest about an hours drive from here. There are buried roots from old trees. Carson said most were palms. People go out and dig to find the treasures of petrified roots. Most are blue when polished...Thus the blue forest. Carson has wanted to go there for a while now, so we did a mom son trip.

These are the tell tail holes that say "YOU ARE IN THE BLUE FOREST" Kinda scary when you hear "voices" in the middle of nowhere..... ;-}

Carson is in heaven ......... Not how empty his bag (on front) is...that was short lived.

I tried to get a picture of the scattering and abundance of smaller petrified wood shards all over on the ground.....didn't work to well.

Carson is SERIOUS about his fossil/ rock hounding.....Gunny thinks we are both nuts!

This is what the bottom of the holes look like, nice pic of the layers in the soils...the White area is where you would dig for the roots.

Note how full that green bag is now...must have weighed 25 lbs.....Carson was bummed. We only "played" for 2 1/2 hours.

Gunny was chasing a horney toad...he lost it, and thought I should help find it. Silly dog was sniffing under every bush, and learned the HARD way the difference between sagebrush and Greasewood...OUCH!! poor puppy noise...

We had fun, and will go out as a family sometime again.
